XCLUSIVE: Honda Amaze CNG Caught Testing at Noida Expressway

Barely five days back, we shared an exclusive sneaking bit with all our readers that Honda is working on CNG fuel option of their compact sedan Amaze and here we are with its proof running around for various tests at the Noida Expressway.

Snapped by our avid reader Rishabh Neb, this test mule had a clear diamond shaped traditional ‘CNG’ sticker at the rear windscreen which is also visible in the video as well as the screengrab we have inserted here.

Rishabh also informs us that there were no other visible changes to the interiors or exteriors of this white colored test mule. But there was a switch-like thing which was located towards the left-side of the driver, near the center console. And, if that was indeed a switch for CNG/Petrol, it did not appear to be at its final position (most probably going by how it would have been fixed for this test car).

At the rear, we can clearly see the i-VTEC moniker confirming that the dual-fuel CNG option of this Amaze would be along with the petrol version. However, the variant name is not clearly visible.

As we informed earlier, unlike the older-gen City which got a dealer-fitted CNG kit, this Amaze, in all possibility, will get a company fitted CNG kit and testing of it on the roads affirms our claim. This would ensure that Amaze CNG will get all the standard benefits of warranty, services etc.

Currently, Amaze is powered by a 1.5L i-DTEC diesel engine which is supremely fuel efficient at rated ARAI figures of 25.8kmpl. The petrol engine is 1.2L i-VTEC which is shared with Brio and this is the same engine Amaze CNG will be offered in, hinting at the next possibility of Brio getting this alternate fuel option sometime later as well.

We expect Honda to offer Amaze CNG in a couple of variants, which could be priced about Rs 40,000-50,000 over the corresponding petrol-only variants. Maruti will be launching Dzire facelift shortly and Amaze CNG would be Honda’s reply to the country’s largest selling compact sedan…We expect them to officially launch it up within a couple of months from now…
