If anyone asks us, which is the next big thing in India? We, inadvertently and confidently say, it would be HONDA!
With the company readying its diesel engine for India, expect a new model/variant blitz from the Japanese giant. Autocar reports that Honda has as many as eight new models planned within a short span of 3 years.
All the models that we can safely expect in the upcoming three years are:
- Brio sedan (petrol + diesel)
- Brio hatchback diesel
- Next-Gen City (Diesel + petrol)
- Next-Gen Jazz (Diesel + Petrol)
- Brio-based MPV
- City-based Crossover
- Next-Gen Accord
- Next-Gen CR-V
The first model that we know, is coming, is the Next-Gen CR-V, spy pics of which we have exclusively published last month. Expect a January 2013 launch for this big crossover.
The next to come would be the Brio sedan which would be a sub 4-meter car and would go against the segment leader Maruti Dzire. Official debut of Brio sedan is expected next month in Thailand and an India entry could be as soon as mid 2013. Brio sedan would be the first Honda car in India that would get the diesel mill.
Next-Gen Accord in petrol-only guise is also expected towards the end of the year. Fun starts just after that, however! Next-Gen City with the inclusion of a diesel engine might make it towards the end of 2013 or at the beginning of 2014.
Next-Gen Jazz would be one big trump card for Honda that would make an Indian entry in 2014. This Jazz is expected to be heavily localized and priced competitively. The point of interest, however, would more be the diesel engine that it is expected to get.
The Brio based MPV is being readied to take on the Ertiga. News is also ripe that this MPV would be more spacious than Ertiga and is expected towards the end of 2014.
The last, but possibly one of the most interesting products would be the compact SUV which Honda plans to launch in 2015.
There is a lot and lot planned from the house of Honda and it could literally be THE company to watch out for.
