Honda Cars to Open Third Manufacturing Plant in Gujarat

Honda Cars India is apparently looking for a 250acre land to buy. The company has already looked at a site in Vithalapur, Gujarat. This announcement came not many days after Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) set up a plant in the state according to Business Standard.

The company is keeping everything very hush-hush right now. In fact, Honda officials denied saying anything on the subject. Interestingly, the site where Honda has shown interest is but a few kilometres from Hansalpur, where Maruti Suzuki has bought a plot for future expansion.

HMSI has recently bought 200 acres of land at a price of 15-20 lacs per acre. The company is also supposed to sign a State Support Agreement with the state government but has not been able to do that as of now because of the upcoming general elections in the country.

Honda has already started a third shift at its Greater Noida plant and with the wheels now rolling at the new Tapukara plant in Rajasthan, the total annual production has reached 2,40,000 units. If this third plant works out for Honda, they would be well on their target of selling 3lac+ units by 2016-17.

Honda recorded a growth of 83 per cent in the last financial year, and wants to continue doing so. They have the new City doing so well and the Amaze backing it up with with consistent performance. With the upcoming launches of the Mobilio MPV and New Jazz lined up this year, and a Brio-based SUV sometime next year, we are sure they would need one!

The plan, I believe, is to be ready and not fall short of the high demand in the market and loose a of sales to the competition.
