Honda has really put the metal on the paddle and is going all guns blazing to achieve a much higher positioning in the Indian market.

They are betting big on their 1.5L iDTEC diesel engine to win them big volumes and this engine will power as many as 5 upcoming Honda cars in 3 years. Honda officially unveiled that they will be investing Rs 2500 crore in Tapukara, Rajasthan plant yesterday in a press meet.

Another significant word that came out from them is regarding the much awaited compact SUV/Crossover for India. Honda confirmed that they are researching on the Crossover, however they have not fixed any time frame of its launch in India.

So, this is the first official word from Honda regarding the consideration of a compact SUV for the Indian market. Having said this, all our attention turns to the Jazz based Urban SUV Concept that Honda unveiled at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show in January this year (More Details & Pics). The mini-CRV looks smashing in its concept form and if the production version resembles this, it would be one of the best looking compact SUVs we have in India.

Honda will launch this Urban SUV in Japan towards the end of 2013. Let’s hope Honda decides on it real fast and we get it somewhere around 2014. Fingers Crossed!
