A few months back we had got hints that Honda is considering developing a compact SUV which will be based on the global Jazz platform. Now at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show and North American International Auto Show, Honda has officially previewed the small crossover which, in plain simple terms, looks simply fabulous.
Called as Urban SUV Concept, it is based on the global Jazz (also known as Fit in some markets) platform. Honda plans to sell this SUV globally and will compete with Nissan Juke, Peugeot 2008, Chevrolet Trax, Fiat 500X and the likes. If Honda is considering this for India, which we dearly hope and expect, this compact SUV will lock horns with Renault Duster and Ford EcoSport. Honda has not revealed anything except “a global concept model combining a sporty and dynamic SUV profile with a spacious, functional interior“.
Along with the fantastic petrol engines that Honda has, it is expected that the EarthDreams technology powered Diesel Engines will also power up the Urban SUV. This crossover measures 4300mm and is over the magical mark of 4 meters and hence, the sub-4-meter advantage will not be available for this car untill Honda plans to do a bit of chopping and cutting for India.
We just get this feeling that this will be a posher product and will sit over the regular compact crossovers we have (and are coming) in India
This Honda’s Urban SUV is expected to be launched in Japan towards the end of the year and later on in North America. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and wish Honda considers this mini CR-V for India as well and soon!
