Hyundai’s Under Test Next-Gen i10 Will Sit Between Current i10 & i20 in India

Hyundai is aggressively testing the Next-Gen i10 in India and frequent spyshots all over the web are a testimony to the same. We have always felt that, in its hidden form, the new car looked slightly bigger than the current i10.

And here we have our answer. While confirming that they will launch a compact SUV to fight against Duster and others, Hyundai has also revealed that the new car which is under tests in India will sit between the current i10 and i20 hatchbacks. In an article published at Economic Times, Hyundai’s CEO & MD, Bo Shin Seo also said that they have shifted focus to diesel cars.

Last year out of the complete sales of its cars, 28% came from diesel powered cars. Seo gave almost clear hints that the new car will be powered by Hyundai’s 1.1L CRDI diesel motor. Reports are also floating around the web that the new called might be called as ‘Brilliant’. Hyundai also claims that Brilliant will create a new segment and will come with better overall performance than the current i10.

Next-Gen i10 Expected Prices

Now, we took a look at both Hyundai i10’s and i20’s ex-showroom prices in Delhi. Hyundai i10 is priced between Rs 3.75 Lakh and Rs 5.5 (excluding AT versions) and the bigger i20 starts at Rs 4.85 Lakh and goes all the way to Rs 7.6 Lakh. This doesn’t give Hyundai much room to play in with this new Next Gen i10 Brilliant.

This means Hyundai will definitely go for some kind of repositioning of these cars. If we are to guess, then Hyundai will reduce the number of variants of current i10 and might limit it only with the 1.1L Epsilon motor whereas the i20 might not go through a drastic change. What this will provide Hyundai is the room to place Next Gen i10 Brilliant conveniently without much overlapping.

So, a base price of around Rs 4.0-4.25 Lakh for the 1.2L petrol Kappa motor with the diesel 1.1L CRDI starting around Rs 5.0-Rs 5.25 Lakh and going till Rs 6 odd Lakhs. This will ensure that it doesn’t cannibalize into diesel i20 prices. With these prices, Next-Gen i10 will be what Ritz is to Maruti. So, a potential customer will have a long price range to chose either of these Hyundai cars. Launch is expected around Diwali.
