Toyota has finally opted for a soft launch of its Innova facelift. The new Innova will be available in as many as ten variants, with prices beginning from Rs 9.77 Lakh for the base trim to an all-time high of 15.06 Lakhs for the top-end Z-variant.
EXTERIOR AND STYLING
Though not a radical change, we feel the Innova will continue its good run in the market thanks to tour operators. On the exterior, we get a redesigned engine grille along with slightly flared-up headlamps. The higher variants will get chrome garnish in the engine grille, but the lower-priced ones will have to do with body-colored engine grilles.
Such has been the use of chrome on the all-new Toyota Innova, that we can call this a chrome job rather than a tweak or upgrade. There is a glint on the rear door, and Toyota calls it the “The Dazzling Chrome Back Door Garnish with Reflector”. Ask us, and we would rather say it is mumbo-jumbo!! Similarly, chrome bezel can be found on the fog lamps of the higher priced versions, but not on the lower-end variants.
And it doesn’t end there!! A side-moulding made of that elusive, shiny, pricey material, which lends elegance and dazzle to cars, is found on the higher variants of the Toyota Innova. There is the option of a muffler tip made up of chrome, too!! Toyota claims that the contemporary body graphics lend the car a premium look, but that is available only in the top-of-the-line “Z” variant. Those graphics set aren’t anywhere to be found on the optional accessories list, too.
The writing is on the wall. The update job, or call it tweak if you want to, has been far from good. Toyota should have tried their hands at changing the shape of the bulky looking vehicle to something better.
INTERIORS AND INSTRUMENTS
Quite a bit of differentiation here! The higher-priced V, VX, Z and ZX variants are provided with Multi-Information Displays on the dashboard, whereas the G and GX variants do not get them. The four higher priced variants (as well as the 6-underlying trims based on 7- or 8-seater options) get a back monitor camera with display. The two lower-priced variants (and the four underlying trims based on seating options) have to make do with a rear SONAR.
The top-of-the-line Z variant gets premium looking interiors with wood inserts and leather wrapped steering wheel and gear-shift lever knob. The seat material in the Z variant is a mix of genuine and synthetic leather. Those in the lower variants are made up of fabric, with a higher quality being used in the four trims of V and VX.
The features that are available in all the trims are (apart from ‘E’ variants) :
- Air Conditioner
- Rear Air Conditioner CeilingVents (for 2nd & 3rd Rows)
- Tilt Steering Column
- Power Steering
- Power Windows (with Driver Side Auto Down)
- Power Door Lock
- Keyless Entry
- SRS Airbags
- Engine Immobiliser
The seating options appear to be comfortable, too. In the third row of seats, all trims get bench seating options. In the middle row, captain seats are provided on the 7-Seater variants, whereas bench-seating is available in the second row in all 8-Seater variants. All seats have reclining facility, and the second row of seats has an option of sliding. The driver seat, on the other hand, gets height adjustment.
There is the option of a 2.4 Litre Diesel engine that makes 102 PS of maximum power @ 3600 RPM and a peak torque of 200 Nm in the range of 1200 – 3600 RPM. As you might have guessed, it is actually the older powerplant that continues its duty.

Toyota is banking big on corporate sales and also those organizations which would want large fleets for duty. However, to lend that special feeling to the personal user, they have an array of optional accessories from protector guards to cushions. One of them was quite interesting, though it is still to be launched. Toyota says it is a heads-up display with an ability to put up a display on the windscreen. Naaaice !!
The base ‘E’ variant starts at Rs 9.77 Lakh and comes without an AC. No we did not mis-write it, in these modern times, we have a car which retails for almost Rs 10 Lakhs ex-showroom and still doesn’t come with one of the basic-most necessity in the country, Air Conditioning! Interestingly, they full form MPV to Multi PREMIUM Vehicle!
Nonetheless, here is the car for you, buy it if you still want to!
