But fret not; as Isuzu has some aggressive plans for India. By the end of next financial year 2015-16, Isuzu has planned to open a total of 60 outlets across the nation expanding to the northern, eastern, western and central India.

Japan-based Isuzu is not a new name in India and has been present here in the commercial vehicle space. Apart from its trucks (which it manufactures under the brand name SML Isuzu), Isuzu offers its lanky SUV MU-7 & newly launched D-Max Pick-up in India.

Both these vehicles are currently assembled at Hindustan Motors Thiruvallur, Chennai plant via CKD units and the company is already working on its 107 acre manufacturing plant in SriCity in Andhra Pradesh. This new plant is expected to go completely operational by early 2016 with an initial production capacity of 50,000 units per year. Isuzu also has plans to scale up production to 1.2 Lakh units per year later.

Isuzu estimates the Indian pick-up truck market segment as one of the fastest growing segments accounting to about 35% of the total CV market share. They also expect India to become world’s largest 1 ton pick-up market by 2023.
