Isuzu to Launch D-MAX Space Cab on May 13 in India

Japanese car maker, Isuzu had showcased the D-Max Space Cab at the Auto Expo in Delhi promising a launch ‘soon’ in the Indian market.

And in an official invitation we have received, the launch is slated for 13th of May 2013 in Mumbai.  The invitation specifically does not mention the DMAX Space Cab and instead teases with ‘Launch of Global Range of Pick-up Trucks’. Also notice the ‘s’ in ‘Trucks’ and Isuzu may also launch the DMAX Single Cab in the market.

The company claims that the D-Max shall be the first such product in the Indian market and is targeted at the owner driven customer segment where the businessman drives his own pick-up truck and also use it as a Multi Utility Vehicle (MUV) sometimes. You can carry valuable cargo and equipment like power tools, hardware and electronics, perishable and exotic cargo inside the 1.5 feet cabin space behind the driver’s seat inside the cabin. It can also carry a wide range of personal items.

The D-Max Space Cab is powered by a 2.5L four cylinder, intercooled and turbocharged diesel engine which produces 100PS of power and 294Nm of torque and is mated with a five speed manual transmission. The D-MAX Space Cab Pick-up will be brought in as a Completely Knocked Down (CKD) units and will be assembled at Hindustan Motors’ Chennai plant where the company already assembles the MU7 SUV.

Isuzu is also working on its own plant in Andhra Pradesh which is expected to be operational by 2016 (More Details). At the Auto Expo, Isuzu promised that the DMAX Space Cab will be launched at a ‘Value for Money’ price tag.
