Jaguar F-Type Coupé is finally out with a bang; or a throaty vroom that would still be reverberating in and around Raleigh Studios at Los Angeles. Keeping with the dynamic and performance-focused character of the car, Jaguar unveiled the new 550 PS F-TYPE R Coupé by accelerating it into the grandstand with the 5.0-litre supercharged V8 at full song. It was as dramatic as it could be without killing the invited guests. And it being Los Angeles nobody was expecting anything subdued.
This new F-Type ‘R’ Coupé delivers 542hp/680Nm of punch and is capable of accelerating from 0-100 km/h in a heart pounding 4.0-seconds. To keep it from flying off and landing on the moon the top speed has been electronically limited to 300 km/h.
The F-Type Coupé line-up comprises of the F-Type ‘S’ Coupé and the F-Type Coupé models. Both these models come equipped with equally willing, if not as powerful, 3.0-litre supercharged V6 engines. The ‘S’ Coupé does the 100 in 4.8 seconds and the smallest sibling does it in 5.1 seconds. Both these cats have a top speed of 275 km/h and 260 km/h respectively.
The Jag’s full manual eight-speed close-ratio Quickshift transmission has been optimized for sporty performance and comes equipped with a SportShift selector or steering wheel-mounted paddles.
To rein in all those crazy horses, one has the option of prepping his F-Type ‘S’ and ‘R’ with Carbon Ceramic Matrix (CCM) braking system that features 398/380mm discs at the front and the rear.
The lightweight yet extremely strong all-aluminium body is a gem to look at and one could well-neigh run out of adjectives to describe the finish and the seductive curves on the car. The new Jag carries forward the finesse of the award-winning F-TYPE Convertible model line-up and design vision of the stunning Jaguar C-X16 concept sports coupé, which was showcased at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.
The looks, the poise, the go…Jaguar-Land Rover has definitely succeeded in creating something immortal, even in the longer lifespan of things metallic. The new F-Type Coupé will be around and remain very much desirable for a very-very long time period indeed.
