Leaked RTO Papers Confirm that Scorpio Automatic is Coming Soon

Mahindra Scorpio which was recently updated during the festive season last year was devoid of a major feature – an automatic transmission, something which was present in the previous edition but strangely missed out on the new version. A few weeks after its launch, MotorBash was the first publication to share road-running spyshots of Scorpio Automatic mules, here and here. And now, it seems Mahindra is finally warming up for its official launch.

Folks at MotorBeam have managed to get hold of some RTO registration papers which confirm that the automatic variant is pending for approval. It shows that Scorpio will be mated to an automatic transmission in the two wheel drive as well as the four wheel drive format.

Although the papers show the presence of automatic transmission in the S10 variant, the report further claims that it will be available in the S6+and S8 trims as well. In the previous version of the Scorpio, the automatic transmission was available only in the top end trim.

Other bits including the 2.2 liter mHAWK diesel engine will remain the same. The SUV will pronounce the clutchless version with ‘Automatic’ stickers on the side body cladding and badging at the rear tailgate.

The earlier Scorpio came shod with a six speed automatic transmission unit by Bosch, this time we can expect the use of a 6-speed Aisin-made torque-converter automatic gearbox which will also go on the new XUV50 facelift, which is also expected to be launched sometime this year. With this, we await an official announcement from Mahindra
