NuvoSport is a Short 36 Month Stop-Gap Product; Innova Rival Under Works

U321, U341 – two upcoming Mahindra UVs. Interesting revelation about NuvoSport…

Mahindra is the largest utility vehicle manufacturer in the country in terms of sales. However with the ever increasing threat from the passenger car specialists like Maruti and Hyundai, the company seems to be on a major expansion spree. Just recently we talked about their plans of a sub 4 metre version of the Bolero in the second half of this year (more details). Apart from this they are also looking at bringing three new products.

As per a report on Economic Times Mahindra is working on a new Innova challenger. Codenamed U321, the vehicle will have a tall ladder to climb considering the high pedestal the Innova holds in the mind of average Indian consumers. Reports are that the U321 will be developed at their new North American Technical Centre located in Troy, Michigan. However, the U321 still has time to see the light of the day and is expected only in 2017-18.

Another product which has been talked about is the U341 but no details have been shared on it yet. The TUV300 is also reported to be getting a seven seater avatar. The ladder frame compact SUV is already available in a 5+2 seating format and what we believe this reports means is proper front facing third row by increasing the size a bit.

The report however ends with an interesting word on the latest NuvoSport. It claims that NuvoSport, which is nothing but a facelifted Quanto, will have a shelf life of just 24 to 36 months. This means the NuvoSport is a stop gap product to keep the sales chart buzzing before new products breathe life in this segment. Does this answer your question of – Mahindra, why NuvoSport?
