Mahindra Verito Electric to be Launched by Mid-2015

Mahindra Verito, the remains of the once Mahindra-Renault tie up (Logan) has not really done well in the market. The small family sedan was born in 2004 and hit the Indian roads back in 2007.

India was the first right hand drive market for the Logan and the Renault’s collaboration with Mahindra significantly helped the production costs. Though the collaboration met a sad end, the Logan continues to be sold in India by Mahindra and Mahindra under the brand name Verito. The company continues to use Renault engines and has even released a notchback version called as the Verito Vibe.

It is a well-known fact that both the Verito and its prodigal offspring Verito Vibe have not been getting even decent numbers in the market but being the only passenger car in their line-up, Mahindra is not ready to give up on it just yet. As per a report on Hindu Business Line, Mahindra plans to launch an electric version of the Verito by mid-2015. The company had showcased the Verito Electric back in February at the Delhi Auto Expo along with the electric Maxximo LCV.

The company management has decided to place the new electric Verito in the commercial car rental space. They expect the car to score 100 unit sales per month to begin with which are high considering that the current Verito with its diesel engine registered sales of only 148 units in October 2014. Its Indian launch will be followed by exports to the European market in the future.

The model shown at the Auto Expo claimed of a range of 80 km and could attain a top speed of 85 kmph. The batteries needed 7 hours to be charged and an hour long fast charge option was also available. Let’s see if the electric Verito can do some good to the dying volumes of the car.
