Mahindra XUV5OO to Get a Cheaper Variant in Lineup

XUV5OO has been a runaway success for Mahindra and the SUV still enjoys high waiting periods. This is when the competition in the Utility Vehicle segment has increased manifold.

Now, Mahindra is planning to add a new variant to XUV5OO’s lineup in India which will slot below the current W6 FWD which starts at Rs 12 Lakhs in Delhi. We can safely assume the new variant to be called as W4 which might start somewhere around 11Lakhs.

This is a big time worry for Tata Safari Storme and might add to Tata’s woes further. This is also expected to hamper Duster a wee bit as well. And that’s not all, Mahindra also plans to launch a more expensive variant to the lineup which will sit over the current W8AWD which retails for Rs 14.75 Lakh in Delhi (Ex-Showroom).

With the addition of both these variants to either side of the lineup, XUV5OO will have a wide price band to play in. It will cover a customer with a budget of flexible Rs 10 Lakh all the way to 16-17 Lakhs! What this will also mean is that XUV5OO might also eat a bit into the Scorpio and the Ssangyong Rexton. But, we guess the ploy is to keep the customer in the family.

Mahindra also has plans to revamp their product lineup by 2015 and we already know that they have undertaken development of new engine family which comprises of as many as 6 new engines. The company further has chalked out a plan to give a minor refresh to its products every 2 years, a major refresh every 4 years and a complete model change in 8 years.

We also know that Mahindra is working on an All-New Scorpio which will hit the market sometime next year and also has plans to work on a new Bolero which might be launched a little later.
