Maruti launched its Ciaz sedan last week at a starting price of INR 6.99 lakh while the top-end variant is priced at INR 9.8 lakh (both prices ex-showroom, Delhi). But come January 2015, the current ZXi (O) and ZDi (O) will be superseded by the ZXi+ and ZDi+ as the new top-end trims.
Maruti had officially announced this at the official launch event of Ciaz. They confirmed that Ciaz will see new Z+ trims in both petrol and diesel.
The current top-end Ciaz variants, the Z(O) in both petrol and diesel, already come with 16-inch alloy wheels instead of the 15-inchers on the other variants, and they also get full leather upholstery too, among other features and equipment.
So, the new top trims will get all the bells and whistles of the Z(O) cars but will add a “touchscreen” infotainment system just to one-up Honda City which does not get it in any trim. The Honda’s top-end variants do feature a 5-inch display screen but it’s not a touchscreen.
The addition of the touchscreen infotainment system would come at a premium of around 25-30 thousand rupees, and the pinch would hardly be felt by someone who has already decided to buy the Ciaz in its top trim. With class-leading fuel-efficiency in both petrol and diesel, and nice pricing, Maruti finally seems to be on the road to achieve something that it could never do with its SX4 earlier…
