Maruti Recalls Swift, Dzire, Ertiga, A-Star For Steering Column Defect

Maruti Suzuki India is recalling some of the Ertiga, Swift, Dzire and the A-Star hatchback models produced between 19 October 2013 and 26 October 2013 according to Economic Times. Some of these cars are suspected to have a faulty steering column. The company has dispatched new steering column parts to its dealership and is in the process of contacting the owners of these vehicles.

Total number of vehicles being recalled stands at 1492. Out of this, there are 581 Dzire compact sedans, 592 Swift hatchbacks, 306 units of Ertiga MPV, and 13 units of the discontinued A-Star compact car.

In a statement issued by the company there is no mention of the specific problem with these steering columns but the company says it will replace the column/parts of the affected vehicles free of cost.

If you are unsure whether your vehicle needs the replacement or not, you can visit Maruti’s Official Site and mention the chassis number of your vehicle. Alternatively, you can check with your nearest Maruti Suzuki dealership.

This replacement is only limited to the vehicle models mentioned and manufactured during the said period of time. No export model or other model of Maruti Suzuki needs to worry.
