Maruti Runs Out of Inventory for Swift and DZire, Bookings Would Continue

Presently, two best selling models of the entire line-up of Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) are the Swift and the DZire. But due to the mishap at the company’s Manesar plant, inventory of these two cars have run out of stock. The factory is currently ‘locked out’ and any kind of production has been stopped.

Mr. Mayank Pareek, Chief Operating Officer (Marketing and Sales), MSIL, said: “We do not have any stock of Swift and DZire at our factory. About 10,000 cars of both the models are on transit and that is the inventory at present”.

However, MSIL has also cleared about the fact that it will not stop accepting bookings for these models. “Our booking is going on and we will not stop it. We have informed the dealers and customers about the situation”, Mr. Pareek said adding “We tell the customers that this is the current situation (about the production at Manesar) and if even after that, they want to book the car, then it shows the strength of the two brands”.

Well, this is true that nobody can deny the craze for the Swift and DZire and this situation is definitely going to hurt both the company and the customers. There are also two other models, SX4 and AStar that are manufactured in the Manesar plant. As per Mr. Pareek, presently Swift has a booking order of 55,000 units, while DZire has 65,000 bookings. Out of these, 80 per cent are for the diesel variants. There is no order backlog for SX4 and A-Star models.

Talking about the approximate time required to clear out all the pending orders, he said: “Assuming that production starts today, it will take us 4-6 months to clear the backlog depending upon the variants”.
