Maruti Suzuki Workers Issues: Workers Demand 5-fold Increase in Basic Pay

Maruti’s woes do not seem to be getting over w.r.t. its labor issues. Whenever it seems that Maruti is on its way back, these kind of labor issues crop up. Along with other reasons, labor issues costed Maruti a drop in overall sales for last year.

According to a report by Economic Times, workers in Maruti’s Manesar plant have submitted a report carrying 20-22 different demands. The major ones reportedly are; workers are demanding increment in their basic salaries and this increase for some is demanded to be as high as 5-fold from their current pay. Workers have also demanded linking Dearness Allowance to basic pay. Overall leave quota is also asked to be increased and there are a few others.

Manesar plant majorly produces Maruti’s Swift which is currently at all-time high figures of around 20k units per month. It would be worth a wait to see Maruti’s reaction to the demands. We hope everything gets amicably settled to ensure smooth working of production and hope there is not disruption to Swift’s or any other cars deliveries.
