Mercedes Benz continues to treat its customers with even more options to choose from, the newest of them being a SUV, the GLA 45 AMG, the performance version of the GLA Class, launched in September.
While the regular GLA has a starting price of Rs 32.75 lakhs and goes on to Rs 36.9 lakhs, the GLA 45 AMG costs more than double. It has a sticker price of Rs 69.6 lakhs. That’s a little more than a lakh costlier than the CLA 45 AMG sedan.
It utilises the same 2.0L four cylinder, turbocharged petrol, producing the power equivalent of 360 horses at 6000 rpm and 450 Nm of massive torque which is abundantly available in the range of 2250 to 5000 rpm, making it the most power four pot mill in regular production.
While in the CLA 45 AMG hits the ton in 4.6s, the added weight in the GLA 45 AMG, for being an SUV, makes not much of a difference, hitting the ton in 4.8 s! That is bloody quick for an SUV of its stature. The massive 19 inch wheels also help in making the GLA 45 AMG look bigger.
Another interesting addition is the tiny in the front radiator grille. The transmission is a seven speed dual clutch AMG Speedshift gearbox which helps the car reach its electronically limited top speed of 250 kmph and transmits power to all four wheels. The GLA 45 AMG is also the only GLA available in India and 4MATIC system (that’s what Mercedes calls its 4WD) is accompanied by a sports suspension setup, performance braking system and a special AMG performance exhaust package.
Safety has also been kept in due consideration. The car gets seven airbags, three stage ESP, and Attention Assist.
