Mercedes went a step ahead in performance with their newly launched SL63 AMG. Unlike its predecessor’s 6.2L V8, the new Sl63 AMG is equipped with the existing 5.5L V8, Twin-Turbocharged M157 engine which is already being used in E63, CLS63, S63, CL63 and ML63. The car will be available in 2 different variants with different engine tuning. The standard version comes with 530 BHp at 5500 RPM and 800 Nm at 2000-4500 RPM. Another comes with the AMG Performance package, extracting 557 BHp at 5500 RPM and 900 Nm at 2250-3750 RPM from that very same engine, thanks to the engine tune.
Adoption of alluminium and magnesium structure combining carbonfibre bootlid and vacuum die castings reduced the kerb weight by 125 Kg, allowing this beast to do a 0-100 kmph in just4.2 seconds with the AMG Performance Package. Mercedes has limited the top speed of the standard version to 250 kmph and with the AMG Performance Package it gets upto 300 kmph mark.
This car looks so graceful with larger cooling ducts on the deeper bumper, unique double-louver grille, LED DRL, ‘V8 BITURBO’ badges along the side lines, wider sills, tenuous boot deck spoiler with a fresh looking rear bumper dwelling a integral diffuser and four trapezoidal-shaped chrome tipped exhaust pipes.
The newly designed chassis with four-link front suspension and multi-link rear suspension, attached with specially tuned active air springs and dampers improves Mercedes’ Active Body Control system, thus the handling of the car.
Mercedes surely made the launching event more glittering by using the Barcelona F1 circuit in Spain as venue and choosing Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg to drive the beauty into the track. The photographs are surely eye popping, look at them!
