Near Production S101 Spied; Rear Looks Inspired from Grand i10

Mahindra is soon going to have not one but two vehicles in the sub 4 meter compact SUV segment. The first being the TUV 300, which was busted recently (launch on September 10) and the other is the micro-SUV S101. The S101, which has been a regular feature everywhere thanks to its numerous spy shots, has been spotted again this time with production-ready parts.

These pics uploaded at Motoroids reveal, for some strange reason, a remarkable resemblance with, wait a minute…. Hyundai’s Grand i10! Yes, the same bulge on the tailgate, a related small window, falling roofline and a similar rear bumper! If you don’t believe us, check out this pic..

Coincidentally, there is a Grand i10 ahead of the two S101 test mules in the following pic. But, what new it brings to the table is the smaller hatchback-like credentials of the S101. Does this mean that, like Renault’s Kwid, S101 will compete in the smaller segment against hatchback crossovers? Are we set for a new-ish segment in the making?

Anyways, S101 is also expected to be unveiled/launched sometime this year and it will come equipped with petrol engine as well, which is developed in association with SsangYong. S101, unlike TUV300, gets a new monocoque chassis which is expected to later grow to another slightly more premium offering in the same segment.
