Ford India has updated new details about its upcoming first compact sedan Figo Aspire. Apart from the usual 360 degree view of the interiors and exteriors, the company has also shared details about its features list. Promotional images with the Bollywood actor Farhan Akhtar have also been uploaded.
As they have announced earlier, the Figo Aspire would be powered by the 1.2 litre Ti-VCT petrol and 1.5 litre TDCi diesel. We would have loved to see the 1.0 litre EcoBoost in the car but the US based manufacturer has quashed this turbocharged engine citing cost reasons as the issue! There is absolutely NO mention of the bigger 1.5 liter petrol engine!
Ford has also updated that Figo Aspire will come with the dual-clutch PowerShift Automatic Transmission, apart from the regular 5-speed manual. This automatic gearbox already does duty on the EcoSport but that is on the 1.5 liter TiVCT motor, however, Ford has NOT mentioned this engine on their website yet!
So, the confusion on which engine will get the Auto tyranny prevails! With the 1.5 Liter TiVCT, Ford will have the combo already tested and it will not need extensive validation or let us say – it will just require pick and plonk on the new car. However, this particular variant will NOT be considered under the ‘small car’ definition (under 1.2 liter petrol and 1.5 liter diesel engines) and will attract higher 24 percent excise duties.

But, if Ford takes the tougher route, they may plonk the PowerShift transmission on the new bettered 1.2 Liter petrol engine which would give the car a cost advantage.
Figo Aspire Features
You also get an electronic power steering (EPAS) with Pull-Drift compensation. Safety has been kept at high priority and the Aspire will come loaded with 6 airbags which also include first in class side and curtain airbags. Hill Launch Assist, ESP, ABS and EBD will also be present in the car. The company even claims that the body structure has been made with high strength steel to protect the passengers in case of a collision.
Aspire will also be fitted with a first in class docking system (called as My Ford Dock) which will allow users to store, mount and charge mobile phone, MP3 player or sat-nav. Mounted on the dashboard, the device can be integrated to the car’s infotainment system. The usual dose of SYNC with Applink will also be on offer and the company claims that, like the current Figo, Aspire will also come with the most powerful air conditioner in the segment and with automatic climate control.
According to the information we have, dealership service training is already underway at Ford’s Sanand plant, where Aspire will be manufactured, and hence its launch is expected soon, within the next 2-3 months.
