New Elite i20 vs Old i20: 15 Variantwise Feature Differences

With every new iteration of i20, Hyundai has managed to better the old one at least in terms of design. The latest ‘Elite’ i20 is the most phenomenal looking i20 ever and is possibly the best looking hatchback sold in the country. But, amidst all this Hyundai has also removed some features which were present in the older version.

Our team mate Neelanjan analyzes the feature differences between these two models and here is a variantwise feature comparison for you…

New i20 vs old i20: Variantwise Feature Comparison

Deletions

  1. New i20 Sportz (O) does not get a passenger airbag, while Asta continues to have the safety measure.
  2. ABS continues to be absent in the new Era and Magna variants. This is the basic-most feature Hyundai could have offered as standard on a car which is sold under the ‘premium hatchback’ tag in India. Cars like Polo and Etios Liva are now offered with standard airbags.
  3. The new Era and Magna variants also lose out on clutch lock (for that matter even the Sportz variant misses out on clutch lock) and impact sensing auto door unlock.
  4. The new i20 doesn’t come with day time running lights at all but gains the head lamp escort function.
  5. The older i20 did not have the rear defogger and timer in just the Era variant. However, on the new i20 it is not on offer even on the Magna trim.
  6. The new i20 Magna also looses out on integrated turn indicators on ORVMs.
  7. Alloy wheels are available only on the new Sportz (O) and Asta.
  8. The new i20 Sportz no longer gets 60:40 rear seat split, but only a bench seat.  This feature is only available on the Asta variant. It also loses out on adjustable rear seat headrest.
  9. The height of the front seat can no longer be adjusted in new i20 Sportz variant but it is available in the Sportz (O) trim.
  10. The new i20 Magna now houses a manual AC instead of the automatic one. It even doesn’t get the practical luggage lamp.

Additions:

However, not everything has been slashed. There are a few additions as well. Here is a list…

  1. Apart from the new Era, all other variants get a 1GB on board storage for media, a feature started with the Grand i10.
  2. The car also gets a front centre console arm rest, a feature available in all variants above the Era.
  3. The new i20 Sportz optional variant now gets a push button Start/Stop function, earlier available only in the Asta (O)
  4. Driver seat belt reminder indicator is now available in the Era too. It was earlier available only above Magna.
  5. The new i20 also gains some interesting display features, like steering position reminder, service reminder and parking sensor display, though these are available only in the top end Asta trim.
