New Elite i20 vs Punto EVO vs Polo vs Swift – Price COMPARO

After the Polo and Punto facelifts from VW and Fiat, respectively, Hyundai has followed up with the new Elite i20 that not only looks more competent now to fight with the Italian and German hatchbacks but it’s pricing, of both petrol and diesel variants, seems challenging enough for Maruti to come up with that Swift’s facelift soon.

Until that happens, we’ll look at the present scenario and give you a variant-wise price-comparo of these four hatchbacks to help you draw your own conclusions.

Fuel Type Hyundai Elite i20 Price (ex-Delhi) Fiat Punto Evo Price (ex-Delhi) VW Polo Price (ex-Delhi) Maruti Suzuki Swift Price (ex-Delhi)

Maruti Suzuki still has the edge when it comes to buying the cheapest petrol car from this lot, as its base petrol version of the Swift, the LXi, will cost you INR 4.42 lakhs (ex-showroom) in Delhi. However, the new Punto Evo is not far behind and offers its base petrol model, the 1.2 Active, at just 13 grand more. The base i20 and Polo are considerably more expensive than the Punto and Swift.

Among diesels, it’s the Punto Evo that has pipped the Swift to become the cheapest diesel hatchback in this company which is definitely the new found aggression from Fiat. But, Maruti fights back and shows us one of the reasons why the Swift still sells so much – it’s this car whose top-end is the cheapest to buy here, both in petrol and diesel.

Still, at just a glance you’ll notice that it’s the Hyundai’s latest offering that is available in more trim levels and the pricing is more evenly spread between those trim levels. For example, the price difference between the two top variants of the i20 diesel, the Sportz and Asta, comes to around 50 thousand while there is around a lakh-rupee difference between the Swift VDI and ZDI models!
