Ford Brazil has finally launched the eagerly awaited Ka hatchback in Brazil after months of speculation. It was expected that the American manufacturer will bring out the new car after the world cup, and in less than a fortnight since the cup got over, the new Ka makes its way into Brazil.
This is the same car which is expected to come to India as the Next-Gen Figo. Also in pipeline in Brazil is the Ka+ sedan, which will be released in India as a compact sedan and may be called as Figo+, drawing DNA from the Figo concept shown just before and at the Auto Expo in February.
The new Ka has been launched with a naturally aspirated 1.0L three pot engine which can run on both petrol as well as ethanol (as per Brazilian laws) producing 86.2PS of maximum power and 107Nm of peak torque. The transmission duties are fulfilled by a 5 speed manual gearbox.
Next-Gen Figo in India is also expected to get a detuned version of the 1.0L EcoBoost that does duty on the EcoSport. The interiors look very similar to the Fiesta sedan which has recently been launched in India. The classy silver inserts make the car look stylish along with the three spoke steering wheel with steering mounted controls. Ford’s highly innovative SYNC multimedia system is also present to pamper the customers.
The Indian Figo will most probably be produced at Ford’s new facility which is coming up in Sanand, but that facility will be operational only in April 2015 which means we may only get the new Figo twins sometime next year, possibly during middle of the year.
The Ka is a fairly loaded car, with even the base variant (SE) having features like electric power steering, air conditioning, electric windows at the front, central locking, knife-type key with remote controls, tilt adjustable steering column, music system with Bluetooth and USB.
The other variant, SEL, gets 15 inch alloys, alarm system, trip computer, driver’s seat height adjustment and Electronic Stability Control (ESC).
