New Santa Fe India Launch on 6th February; May Start At Rs 20-22 Lakh

After truckloads of spottings of the New Hyundai Santa Fe from India, well, we share another one coming from some highway near Chennai by Dieseldunk, a Team-BHP.com forum member.

New Santa Fe has been under test in India since a long time and has been delayed by a few months for sure. Reports suggest that Hyundai wanted to be completely sure before launching it in the market. And now, Autocar has busted that the New Santa Fe will be launched on 6th February 2014 in India.

Autocar further reports that the All-New Santa Fe will be positioned to gun down the segment leader, Toyota Fortuner. And hence, it will be priced competitively. To achieve this, Hyundai is localising Santa Fe’s assembly at its Chennai plant and developments point at a lower price tag than Fortuner.

New Santa Fe will continue to be powered by the same 2.2L VGT diesel engine and the power/torque figures are also expected to be the same 197ps and 420Nm respectively. However, there is a definite improvement on the driveability front expected along with better efficiency.

While the current Santa Fe is also offered in manual 4×2 options, Autocar reports that the new Santa Fe will come with standard on-demand four wheel drive transmission, in both manual and automatic tyrannies.

Toyota’s Fortuner starts at Rs 22.23 Lakh for the 4×2 variant whereas the 4×4 starts at Rs 23.50 Lakh. On the other hand, current Santa Fe starts at Rs 23.60 Lakh for the 4×2 variant whereas Rs 25.73 Lakh for the 4WD variant (All prices ex-showroom Delhi). This is where Hyundai may want to take the lead. Going by these figures, the new Hyundai Santa Fe can start at something around Rs 20-22 Lakh.
