New Swift Facelift: Coming This November

Hatchbacks would come and go but I doubt if there would be any car which would even come close to replicating the phenomenal success of Maruti’s Swift. The car, in its 10th year of production now, continues to do immensely well in sales.

In the first quarter (April-June) of the current financial year the Swift came at number three on the list of highest selling cars in India. The first, second, and fourth spots were occupied by the Alto, Dzire, and Wagon R, respectively.

Thankfully, Maruti does not plan to rest on its laurels and will launch the facelifted Swift around the festive season to keep the potential buyers (more) interested in this cheerful hatchback. After earlier speculations of July launch, this time ET Auto pegs the launch month as November this year, which, we believe, should be it!

Though, it is not known what all changes will the new Swift facelift get, but it will be a minor niptuck job on the cosmetic front for sure. Based on the only spyshots of the Dzire facelift, we believe sibling Swift will also get a similar treatment and it would be different from the international facelift Swift has received recently.

This means that we can expect a lot of chrome job upfront with a new grille, redesigned fog lamps with chrome surrounds, tiny bit of changes to the headlamps and some at the rear. However, amidst all this, new Swift facelift may also get feature rich based on the spyshots which were circulated last year. So, keyless entry, push button start and cruise control are the features that the new car may get in its facelifted avatar.

The interiors too will see some flash and are expected to get new infotainment options with one possibly offering an inbuilt LCD screen too.

The car would continue to be powered by the same set of petrol and diesel engines and in same tunes. It’s highly unlikely that Maruti would offer the 1.3L MJD in its 90PS VGT tune like on the Ertiga and SX4. The same 1.3-litre diesel engine produces 75 bhp on the Swift.

On the other hand, the K12 1.2-litre petrol engine puts out 87PS of power with 114Nm of torque. Both the engines come mated to five-speed manual gearboxes and though the possibility of automatic (or AMT) tyrannies in either the diesel or petrol is bleak, it cannot be ruled out altogether.

So, new Maruti Swift, this festive season in November..sounds interesting!
