Power has always meant an Ambassador with a red light on top in India. Even despite the entry of more contemporary technology and cars, people with influential power in the country still travel in an Ambassador.
But the road for the iconic car’s maker has not been very rosy of late. Hindustan motors has been struggling to keep up with the changing times and in a bid to regain lost ground, have planned the restructuring of the company to give them a new ground to hunt on.
Ambassador Compact
The company has an Ambassador CS in the works to take on the Japanese and Koreans in the bid to woo the Indian consumers. And if you really think we are joking, the car has been caught testing some time back on Indian roads (Pic Below).
It is expected that the company will extensively rework their 1.5L diesel engine which produces a paltry 35.5 bhp of power and 7.44kgm of torque.
More SUVs from Mitsubishi
The company operates in collaboration with Mitsubishi Motors and has announced a slew of SUVs lined up for launch in 2013. Also the news of Hindustan Motors entering into commercial and passenger car segment is doing the rounds. “Our focus is now on SUVs (sports utility vehicles) and we plan to launch new models on the Mitsubishi platform by the next fiscal” is what Uttam Bose, the company’s managing director has stated at a press conference.
Hindustan Motors is running into losses but with the huge cuts in the expenditure, the company is looking to break even by the March of this fiscal year. An MoU with Raaj Unocal Lubricants Limited (RULL) has been signed for production and marketing of the lubricants to be used in their vehicles.
Hindustan Motors has been in a slump off late and so has the case been with Mitsubishi. Both the companies have not been able to react on time to the changing consumer needs. But they say the match is not over till the last ball is bowled in the game of cricket and same goes for the fortunes of the car makers. SUVs is an area where Mitsubishi has a strong hold and class has somehow meant Ambassador. With refreshes and updates, they might just manage to get back on the customer radar.
Correct me if I am wrong, but does not an Ambassador look like an Indian Beetle with a boot? Ok..ok..a..far fetched resemblance..?
