Nissan Aims Shocker Price for Datsun’s First Micra Based Hatch; Unveiling on 15th July

Till now you must be very well aware about Datsun’s Indian entry. Datsun’s first car is codenamed as ‘K2’ and will be a hatchback based on Nissan Micra.

Autocar India Editor, Hormazd Sorabjee has shared a few new revelations via a couple of Tweets. The first revelation is that, despite a challenge of keeping costs under control, Nissan is aiming at a ‘shock pricing’ for its products. We were unsure, if the official unveiling of brand ‘Datsun’ on July 15th will also include a sneak into its newer products.

This also brings us to an interesting confusion. Nissan Micra produces 75PS of power output from its 3-pot motor. The question is, will Datsun’s K2 produce the same power output or will it be a little detuned to make it more fuel efficient.

K2 will compete with the lesser variants of i10, WagonR and Chevrolet Beat. However, if you were expecting a diesel K2, its NOT coming anytime soon. Official launch of these cars will happen somewhere in early 2014 after the Noida Auto Expo. Apart from K2, Datsun will also launch ‘I2’, an A-segment car along with an MPV based on K2. These cars are also targeted at Russian, Chinese and a few other emerging markets.

Datsun will make its official world premier, in the presence of Renault-Nissan’s top boss Carlos Ghosn, at Gurgaon on 15th July and we have already received the official invite. Keep tuned; we will report live from ground zero!
