So, this time it appears that Fiat may stick to timelines. Just yesterday we reported that the Italians will launch the 595 Competezione in India in July but we marked it as a speculative story based on Fiat’s earlier promises and history. As a reminder, we still await the Linea 1.6 Multijet which was promised for 2014 back in 2012!!! However, it is official that they are preparing the 500 Abarth for our market.
A teaser placed at the official Fiat India’s website screams that Fiat 500 Abarth is ‘Coming Soon’ and this also confirms that India will eventually get to see Abarth (Fiat’s Performance Division) cars running around on our roads.
The Fiat 500 Abarth will carry the 1.4 liter T-jet petrol engine which produces a fantastic 160 PS of peak power and a very interesting 230 Nm of maximum torque and uses a fixed-geometry turbocharger. According to reports the car will come equipped with a 5-speed AMT gearbox but we just hope there is a manual on offer too to extract the potential of the Abarth-powered motor!
Fiat showcased the Abarth 500 at the Auto Expo last year for the first time in India and with a power to weight ratio of 155 ps/tonne, expect this stonker of a motor to be priced at a premium and at possible price tag of over 30 Lakhs since it will be a CBU.
