So if you were bamboozled by our excitement when Ford announced the prices of EcoSport, here is the inevitable! Various different sources claimed different figures for EcoSports bookings.
And here comes the official bomb which read loud and clear – “Ford EcoSport Records 30,000 Bookings in Just 17 days“. What an aggressive pricing has done is turn the interested souls into prospect buyers. For the records, this is better than the response Honda Amaze or Maruti Dzire attracted when they were launched and we are not even counting Duster here.
What we are sure is the fact that, EcoSport is not only eating up Duster’s share but will also attract buyers of compact sedans and premium hatchbacks. Through the press release, Ford has also requested the people who have booked their EcoSports to remain patient and the company is working hard to optimize deliveries and reduce waiting period.
According to Joginder Singh, President and MD Ford India, their team in Chennai is working closely with the suppliers and are in process of enhancing the production of EcoSport to meet the high demand in the market. However, what Ford has not mentioned is the individual ratio or share of the bookings for the 1.5L petrol, 1.0L EcoBoost and 1.5L TDCI.
Ford started with the bookings of EcoSport a few weeks before the urban SUV was launched and customers had the option of paying Rs 50,000 and they were rest assured of their EcoSport. But what this huge number of bookings has done is create a huge waiting period which spans across to even a year for some variants. Many dealers across the country have stopped taking bookings for the diesel variant in particular.
Response to EcoSport clearly reflects the interest of a common man. And now, its upto Ford to respond to and meet the demand. How will this go against the Duster remains to be seen and we should get to know in the comings months sales reports.
