Its raining compact SUVs and every manufacturer wants to eat the growing segment’s pie. The new entrant in this segment would be the luxury car manufacturer Mercedes Benzas they have officially confirmed a compact SUV based on A-Class platform.
A-Class is Mercedes small-car platform which comprises of hatchback models currently and are also expected to get launched in India probably a little later. Daimler Chief Executive Dieter Zetsche officially announced that A-Class is what they would go offensive with in the market with the compact SUV based on the same platform.
The new SUV is expected to be called as GLA and is likely to be powered by a 4-cylinder engine from the existing hatches. Since its launch in mid-June, A-Class has received more than 40,000 bookings. This new CSUV would compete directly with Audi’s Q3 and BMW’s X1 and we do expect it to make it to India as well.
Meanwhile, we are just 2 days away from B-Class’ launch in India. Mercedes has sold more than 70,000 B-Class since it was launched in November 2011.
