SPIED: Volkswagen Polo Facelift Caught Testing In Death Valley

Two Volkswagen Polo test cars were spied at Death Valley by Autoevolution. It appears as if the cars on test are facelifted editions of the current Polo.

The test mules were wrapped in camouflage on the front portion only. This might suggest that the changes will be limited to the front grille, bumpers and the headlights. However, we feel that the headlights and the upper bumper too appear very similar to that of the the current edition. Hence, the probability is more that the lower portion of the grille could change, leaving other areas virtually untouched.

Clearly visible in the photos is that there are two Polo test mules in the spyshots. One of them is painted in black, and sports a visible exhaust tip. Currently, only the 1.2 TSI and 1.6 TDI models have a visible exhaust tip, hence it is assumed that it is a turbocharged model. The black car is a three-door version.

On the other hand, the white car is a five-door version. It is a Polo BlueGT, a brand new model that was unveiled late last year. It is powered by a new 1.4 TSI turbo rated at 140 PS and equipped with cylinder deactivation. The wheels, however, are from the GTI.

Autocar has recently busted that India will get a facelifted Polo in May 2014. These spyshots present a possibility that these ‘under test’ Polo mules might be the ones that may come to India.

Regular Polo has been a really sturdy car, marred only by the lack of potent engine options. It has been whispered that the Polo facelift coming to India in May 2014 will sort this out with peppy 1.5 L diesel powerplant. It was also speculated that there won’t be much changes to the exterior shell, and that seems to be in sync with the spyshots. However, there could be changes in the interiors.

Recently, Volkswagen unveiled its Polo GT TDI model in India. It has set the benchmark as the most powerful diesel hatchback in the country (More Details).
