Porsche Launches Macan for Rs 1 Crore in India & Its All Sold Out!

Porsche has launched its latest compact SUV the Macan in India. The car, meant to plug in the gap below the Cayenne will cost you a crore of those green leaves in your bank, making it a rather exclusive product targeted at the affluent folks.

In fact, to give you an idea of the love India has for exclusive products, Porsche India already has bookings for all the units allocated for India for the year 2014 (were they in single digits?)

The Macan is available in two engine variants:

  • Macan Turbo: It houses a 3.6L V6 petrol, producing a peak power of 400PS and maximum torque of 550Nm of torque. It does a 0-100kmph sprint in 4.8s and tops out at 266kmph.
  • Macan S: It has a 3.0L V6 diesel which produces 258PS of power and 580Nm of torque. It can hit a ton in 6.3s and tops out at 230kmph.

The base model with a 2.0L four cylinder mill (Porsche’s first 4 cylinder engine in like two decades), which would have been an apter mill for India has been given a miss! There is a rumor of a 204PS 2.0L four cylinder diesel engine to be on the cards for the other international markets but that may also not come to India. Both the available models will have the 7 speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) dual clutch automatic gearbox which promises lightning fast gear shifts.

The car has been immensely popular in every country it is being sold in and India seems to be no different. Macan shares its wheelbase and suspension with the Audi Q5 but is way more suave than all the three German triumvirates combined together. As we said, the premiumness comes at a price though. The Macan Turbo petrol has been priced at Rs 1.1 crores while the Macan S diesel has a sticker price of Rs 1 crore (both prices, ex-showroom, Delhi).
