Renault’s Kwid is the most important car for the French automaker in India. Being a product in the highly competitive entry level segment, Kwid will have to crack the code without losing on margins.

We drove the A-segment micro SUV-ish car in its media drive in Goa yesterday and it turns out to be one splendid offering. It not only brings out a lot of segment first features but also manages to stand up as the most beautifully crafted product in the segment. What Renault has done here is both daring and a result of careful thinking. While they know beating Maruti or Hyundai in their own created battleground with conventional offerings is not possible, and hence they decided to take the road less taken and the outcome is ‘handsome’!

Yes, the Kwid, with its butch looks and high ground clearance has managed to make a lot of people interested. Here is what has been officially confirmed and revealed by Renault India…

The Kwid gets a newly developed 800 cc SCe (Smart Control Efficiency) three cylinder DOHC mill producing 54 PS of maximum power at 5,678 rpm and 72 Nm of peak torque at 4,386 rpm. This lends Kwid an excellent power to weight ratio of 85 PS/ton! The company claims that the engine gets a lifetime, maintenance free timing chain. Transmission duties are overseen by a new 5 speed manual gearbox which has been optimised for high fuel efficiency.

In fact, the Kwid has a best in class fuel efficiency rating of 25.17 kpl thanks to its lightweight aluminium cylinder block and a low friction engine design for minimal energy loss. Lesser trips to the fuel station will mean money saved! This rating also makes it the most fuel efficient petrol car in the country.

    People in India r now more thinkful n smart. They r looking for what you hv not produced so far…
    A smaller version cud hv a big hit not 800 cc. engine.
    Try a smaller one for tough city conditions and make your own way to hit the 500cc segment.
    No one is there……Renault.
