The new Flying Spur is the fastest four-door Bentley ever made. For the unveiling ceremony, among all those present were Mr Chris Buxton, Regional Manager, Bentley Motors, India, South Africa & Middle East as well as Geoff Dowding, Regional Director, U.K, Asia & Middle East along with Mr Satya Bagla, Managing Director of Exclusive Motors.

Let us have a look at luxury with pics right from the launch venue:

LOOKS AND STYLING

The Bentley Flying Spur belongs to that exclusive class of vehicles which is not just for moving around with ease and some spikes of adrenaline in between. Once it finds its position on a person’s driveway, it will elevate him/her to a different league in the society.

The styling speaks enough about its roots and traditions; it is one hell of an expensive, exclusive machine and is certainly the thing to own. It isn’t overtly aggressive in its cues. A smooth, flowing design theme melds seamlessly along with the significantly muscular build of the New Flying Spur.

The obloid headlamp clusters might seem a bit ancient to some, but we feel they add a touch of class and set it apart from others. The engine grille and the wide stance coupled with the muscular rear haunches give it a powerful, intimidating look.

The Flying Spur is a sight to stare at and praise as it glides away smoothly!!

INTERIORS AND INSTRUMENTS:

Since Bentley claims that their new Flying Spur is the fastest four-door model from their stables yet, a few of you might have felt that it could have let itself down inside the cabin for lesser weights.

A BIG NO!!

The Flying Spur is possibly the best ever combination of spunk and comfort. The fact that the cabin is hand-crafted speaks loads about the comfort and refinement that one will be treated to. And despite all the old-world charm and finesse that comes from dizens of employees toiling over a particular car, the Flying Spur does not lose out on modernity either. Read on!!

As an eye-opener, let us inform that the Flying Spur uses about 600 new parts as compared to the outgoing model. Only a few components like the sun visors, door handles and armrests have persisted.

Interiors are adorned with premium quality natural leather, and Bentley claims the texture of the leather is acquired by the help of a process known only to them. Thanks to the special formula, the leather is softer yet more durable.

As for the technology fitted inside the cabin, here’s the list :

  • Central infotainment system
  • High resolution 8” touch-screen interface
  • Bentley’s advanced satellite navigation system
  • Bluetooth connectivity
  • Voice Activation Feature
  • Touch Screen Remote (TSR) to allow rear passengers as well to control the applications
  • Bentley Connectivity Unit (BCU) allows portable devices, laptops and tablet computers to connect to the internet through the car’s own Wi-Fi hotspot with an active SIM and includes 64 GB of internal storage capacity.
  • Two 10” LCD screens at the backs of the front seats

POWERPLANT : STRONG YET EFFICIENT

The Flying Spur is the fastest road-going luxury sedan in the world, powered by Bentley’s renowned 6.0-litre, twin turbo W12 engine. It develops 625PS @ 6000 rpm, sprinting from 0-100km/h in just 4.6 seconds. A mammoth torque of about 800Nm is available from as low as 2000 rpm.

The latest change to the W12 engine comes in the form of a complete change to the engine management system under the Bosch ME17 system. It has lead to better driveability and more low speed responsiveness.

The engine is mated to the just-out eight-speed auto tranny from ZF. It is well equipped to handle the massive torque being produced by the W12, and helps keep the engine in its most efficient operating ranges throughout a slew of speeds and loads.

All this goes a long way in making the new Flying Spur a lot more eco-friendly than what people would imagine. It delivers a fuel-efficiency of 14.7 litres/ 100 km and emanates about 343 gm of Carbon Dioxide per kilometer travelled. These figures are actually impressive for a bulky, 12-cylinder, ultra-luxury sedan.

COMFORT AND COZINESS

This is another area where the New Flying Spur scores heavily over two-door coupes qnd cabriolets. The new Flying Spur just gives a whole new meaning to the phrase “Being Chauffered”!!

The computer-controlled air suspension allows for a better impact absorption process. In the new Flying Spur, springs and bars all over the car’s underpinnings have been tweaked in terms of stiffness to further improve ride quality and comfort. A hydraulic damper control also works in tandem with the springs to achieve the same target.

The new Flying Spur takes utmost care of the NVH levels. Use of special acoustic material in the underpinning helps to reduce road noise. Special insulation material on the side glazings helps to reduce wind noise at all speeds. Enlarged rear mufflers also help to bring down the amounts of exhaust noise.

The New Bentley Flying Spur is one of those cars that quite a few will desire to own, but only a handful will ever have the good fortune of taking the wheel or being chauffered in it. The base price of new Flying Spur is Rs. 3.10 Crores ex-showroom New Delhi (subject to options & exchange rate fluctuations).
