Rush Compact SUV Being Considered for India; Vios Sedan is On!

In anything under the terribly underpowered Corolla Altis, Toyota Kirloskar has not really had a flight which the company management could term ‘successful’! Their Etios siblings which include the Etios Liva hatch, Etios sedan and the dummy cross hatch Etios Cross play in the volume sub 10 Lakh segment but are drab sellers and have not met expectations. To make amends and to have a sizable portion of the Indian car market, Toyota does not want to take the beaten path of 3-7 Lakh small cars and they are in fact planning something bigger and hopefully plusher in the compact SUV and mid-sized sedan segment.

The company understands that having the competitive edge of making a small car in the likes of Maruti or Hyundai and yet keep it profitable is not their cup of tea. As per an article on Economic Times, Naomi Ishii, MD of Toyota India says that in the near future they are channeling their energy on the rising middle class and have plans to launch a new sedan and a compact SUV, which is one of the fastest growing segments in the country.

The report further states that the company management agrees that they have several options which they can use. For the mid-size sedan it is almost a certainty that the Vios, which has been spotted testing in India, is on! The Vios will pick up a fight against Ciaz, City and Verna.

For the compact SUV, they are considering the Rush which is already on sale in some ASEAN countries and has been spotted camouflaged under mysterious circumstances in India! The Rush though will need some serious modifications to be India ready! It is a bigger SUV and is sold internationally with just a petrol engine. So Toyota will have to plonk a diesel motor to make sense of the Duster-rival it would eventually turn up to be!
