Mahindra has intensified testing the Ssangyong Rexton and it seems it is in its last stages and the product might have been made India-ready by now.
Mahindra has been rigorously testing the Rexton and they have also taken the SUV to extreme climates and conditions of Ladakh.
You might have read our earlier exclusive scoop of Rexton which gave a lot of information on this big bulky SUV. There have been a few rumors that Mahindra might launch the new version of Rexton, Rexton W which they revealed in Busan Auto Show, but from our new spy pics and a few more flying around the web, it almost becomes certain that it would be this pre-facelift Rexton which would make it to India.
According to our last report, Mahindra is gunning for a Diwali release of the SUV and it is expected to be placed over XUV5OO and pitted against Ford Endevour, Chevrolet Captiva and possibly the Toyota Fortuner as well.
We caught this mule in Pune as it was buzzing past us. It had pretty good road presence and we liked its rear. However, its the front which is old-school and not at all sporty which might play a spoilsport for Mahindra. This big bulky SUV is powered by a 2.7L in-line 5 cylinder Mercedes sourced diesel engine and the higher variant is capable of producing 179PS of power output and 402Nm of torque. We expect it to be priced around the 17-20 Lakh territory.
