Updated 30 December:  More spy pics & details added

Ssangyong launched its first global compact SUV Tivoli in Korea in January this year at starting price tag of 16.3 million Korean Won which equates to about 9.25 Lakhs in INR. It was developed in four years and was the first all-new product after Mahindra’s acquisition of Ssangyong.

Tivoli is 4195 mm long, 1590 mm high and 1795 mm wide and has 423 liters of boot space. In Korea, the compact SUV is powered by a 1.6 liter petrol motor which produces 126 PS of peak power and 157 Nm of peak torque mated with 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmissions.

28th Dec: Ever since it was unveiled, it appeared to be a product that could also make way to India and we had some sneaking bits that Mahindra, along with other cars in the Korean’s stables, is also considering its youngest – the Tivoli for our market. Here we have the first ever spyshots of Tivoli from Bangalore spotted and shared by one of our avid reader Krishna.

Tivoli is around the size of Duster and Creta and will form an interesting preposition in this segment, just over the TUV300. Engine details are not known at this point but we believe, along with TUV’s 1.5 liter diesel engine, it will also carry a petrol motor, most probably the 1.5 liter engine which Mahindra has confirmed, is in the making!

Tivoli does look aggressive in its design and better than both Duster and Creta but for some reason, it appears way too low here.. or is it too loaded for testing purposes?

Unlike Mahindra’s indigenous products, which are caught extremely bare-bones initially and gain form in a year or two, testing on the roads, Tivoli, being a Ssangyong product is almost production ready, at least in form. What will be put to test here will be the engines along with all the parts which will be sourced from and for India.

Tivoli Expected Indian Launch

We definitely expect Mahindra to showcase the Ssangyong’s compact SUV at the Auto Expo in February and a launch sometime in 2016 must be in the calendar. It will make a formiddable lineup of compact SUVs for Mahindra, starting from KUV100 (launch on 15th Jan), ladder frame TUV300 and Tivoli.
