Skoda May Launch Rapid 1.2 TSI With DSG Autobox

Skoda has silently launched and updated their bread and butter sedan, Skoda Rapid at Rs 8.85 lakhs. The update is merely cosmetic with chrome inserts and few goodies added to the equipments list.

According to the website, the changes apply only to the top end elegance trim and here is a look at the changes-

  • Projector headlamps for elegance trim and the Active Plus trim
  • Chrome lining on steering wheel
  • Bluetooth-enabled security-coded music system
  • Steering-mounted audio controls
  • Climatronic AC and Storage pockets on the backrest.

The mechanicals remain untouched and Rapid will continue with its 1.6L Petrol and 1.6 TDI units. With a slight price rise, reports indicate the arrival of updated model at the showrooms.

Now, in a new update from Overdrive.in, the possibility of Skoda launching Rapid with the 1.2L TSI gets ripe. Rapid with the 1.2L turbocharged motor from Vento TSI coupled with the 7-Speed DSG gearbox will get an auto-box for the first time in the country.

These are expected to be the final tweaks before Skoda completely revamps its Rapid. Skoda India is likely to launch the 2013 European Rapid which is based on a totally new design carried from the recently launched Octavia. The Euro spec Rapid is the first Skoda model to feature the brand’s new design language. (Though Octavia became the first for us Indians).

The Euro spec Rapid is 4.48m long and 1.7m wide, with its longer wheelbase and torsion-beam rear axle Rapid will come with larger cabin and boot space. The launch of new Rapid will be around mid 2014. If the 1.2 TSI Petrol motor along with the 7-Speed DSG Automatic Gearbox gets a place in the Rapid, it will be an interesting price position which it is expected to get, surely under the Vento TSI!
