Skoda Prize to Disclose Shortlisted Candidates for “The Breakthrough Artist Award 2012” on 5 Dec; Check for Details

Skoda, the name we all really came to know about after the Octavia, has been doing its bit for the Indian Contemporary Art as well.

For all those bloaks who don’t know about it, Skoda started a Skoda Art prize in 2010 and it is one of the most prestigious awards being given on the Art framework in India. It started out as an award to help boost the career of artists below the age of 35 and showcase their work in front of the country, alongside renowned artists.

The Skoda Prize also supports the development of critical dialogue and writing about Indian contemporary art. The Breakthrough Artist award is supported by Art India, one of the most prestigious magazines for Art in the country. In its third year this time,the jury,comprising of Mrs. Kiran Nadar, Mrs. Tasneem Mehta, (Managing Trustee and Honorary Director, Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum), artist Vivan Sundaram, Pooja Sood, (Director of Khoj), Heike Munder (Director of the Migros Museum für gegenwartskunst, Zürich) has shortlisted candidates for the prestigious prize and the short listed candidates shall be disclosed on the 5th of December in Kolkata.

This announcement is all the more important as it shall happen alongside Bani Abadi’s solo show “Then It Was Moulded Anew” at Experimenter in Kolkata. Bani, as known on the Art frontier is at a crucial stage in her career and her contibution to the field has been appreciated by one and all and the show provides a window into her world. The show brings together significant bodies of work that have all premiered in international venues through 2012 and are showing for the first time in the country.

This year the prize money is going to be INR 2,00,000 which is four fold the last year’s prize money. The candidates shall be diclosed on the 5th of next month,and the winner would be announced later on. So now that you know all about it, and regret not participating this year, there’s always a second chance. It would come again next year and be sure you send in your work.
