Skoda, the Czechoslovakian car maker may not be in its best shape in India if we talk about market share. However, that is not stopping them from working on their products. The Rapid, which is one of their most successful models, is set to get a facelift soon. Expected to be launched this year, the facelift was recently teased at a press conference to Volkswagen investors.
Shared by Indian Autos Blog, the teaser image confirms the car to be in line to be updated for the Indian market. While the image may not reveal much about the mid sized sedan, but several spy images have come up in web which reveal that changes this time will be kept minimum. Following the design philosophy of the European version, the Skoda logo in the front becomes a part of the bonnet.
Moving away from the previous generation hatchback Fabia, the Rapid gets restyled grille and head lamps. Interiors are expected to see new seat covers, a touchscreen MirrorLink infotainment system, and a rear view camera. Also in line are automatic wipers and day/night rear view mirrors.
Powering the car is expected to be the same 1.6 litre MPI petrol churning out 103.3 bhp of power and 153 Nm of torque. The diesel 1.5 litre TDI mill though is expected to be spruced up to squeeze more power. This time it is set to churn out 108 bhp of maximum power. Transmission options will include a manual gearbox as well as the 7 speed DSG unit.
