SPIED: Maruti’s Auto Expo Special Editions – SX4 Sport, Ertiga Altair, Alto Browzer & Ritz Jubilo Spotted on Roads

Maruti Suzuki has this old tradition of preparing special editions of almost all their cars and displaying them at the biennial Delhi Auto Expo.

This year also Maruti showcased special editions of their cars, some of which looked fantastic and some boring. Although these special editions seldom see the light of the day, this time though, the scenario might be a bit different. One Motorbeam.com reader spotted the special edition SX4, Alto K10, Ertiga & Ritz on the roads in Delhi.

The SX4 Sport, Ertiga Altair, Alto 800 Browzer and Ritz Jubilo were seen in broad daylight doing rounds. Like most manufacturers in India, Maruti also follows the trend by bringing out special editions of some slow-moving models to clear stocks and even some stable products to bring them to light against the competition.

The SX4 Sport seems to be a leaf out of the same book. This also gives a hint that the Ciaz concept premiered in the Auto Expo is pretty much ready to fill the void left by the SX4. The car has a new rear diffuser, an interesting looking spoiler, rallying lights embedded in the front grille, and a ‘love it or hate it’ fluorescent sticker lining. The all black alloy wheels also add up to the rallying image it is trying to potray. In terms of engines however, do not expect any change and neither would it make any logical sense to have a change of heart at the fag end of its life cycle.

The Alto 800 Browzer did indeed manage to raise quite a few eyebrows at the expo. The funky blue paint job on certain parts, and the map on the side panel does make the otherwise bland looking Alto ‘pretty’ (yes! pretty is what I shall call it), but as a product makes it quite impractical.

The tall boyish, no-nonsense look on Ertiga is further enhanced in the Ertiga Altair with the extensive and liberal use of chrome. The paintwork and blackened headlamp cluster adds to the sophisticated stance. The Ritz Jubilo (not in spy pics), with its ancient looking headlamps, jazzy blue stickers and smoky tail lights was also spotted.

Maruti has been known to bring out limited editions of its products with a few stickers added here and there. This lot seems to be different. None of the cars have any mechanical change but the cosmetic updates do endow them a ‘different’ look and feel.

Spotting of these together on the roads, hints at the possibility of Maruti taking them to some place (dealership, malls) for display or possibly these are on their way to the Gurgaon plant! But would you like to check them out at your nearest dealerships and ‘On Sale’?
