Ever since we got the first hints of the oncoming of JDM (Japan Domestic Market) WagonR Stingray to our shores, we were ecstatic. Just yesterday, we shared an unclear snap of the Stingray which was draped for some studio shots.
However, these latest clearmost spyshots shared by Autocar India seem to have spoiled all the fun. We expected that we will finally have a good looking car under the ‘WagonR’ moniker. However, through these shots it appears that this WagonR Stingray is a half baked product and really a half hearted attempt (like the latest SX4 facelift) for our market.
While the front is too garish (which we will talk about later), the rear is almost the same as earlier gen WagonR with a few niptuck jobs.
Talking about the front, this Stingray gets:
- new all chrome grille
- new front bumper
- refreshed fog lamp housings (different from the JDM Stingray)
- flatter front bonnet
- bigger air dam
- projector headlamps (most important inclusion)
At the rear:
- Clear lens tail lamps
- Chrome strip with ‘STINGRAY’ written in prominent letters
- Chrome surrounds for tail lamps
- Rear Spoiler
The ‘ABS’ stickering confirms that the VXI trim will get them. Apart from that WagonR Stingray also gets new grey colored alloy wheels. What is sure is that the Stingray will share the same 1.2L K-Series mill with the current WagonR and will sit over it. We expect the pricing to start at around Rs 3.7 Lakh and go upto Rs 4.7 Lakh ex-showroom Delhi. We also hope Maruti launches this Stingray with an automatic box to appease the changing times. Launch is expected around the festive season.
