Spied: EcoSport/Duster Rival from Hyundai’s Stable Caught Again

Hyundai has been putting in efforts to piece together a creation for cashing in on the lucrative Compact SUV segment. We have talked about it earlier and now Blog.Naver.com has again reported about its recent spotting in Korea.

This Hyundai’s compact shares a few similarities to a product from the sister brand of Hyundai, the Kia Provo. The drooping, low-slung roofline stands as a testament to that. The stocky C-Pillar is also another strong pointer.

However, upfront there is more of Hyundai’s DNA. Under the disguise, the demarcated chrome grille can be spotted (visible in earlier spyshots). There is a clear reminder of the Hyundai Santa Fe’s build in the front portion.

Some people might say that this could be a Kia on test, not a Hyundai. However, the logos on the wheels from the first set of spyshots had clearly proved it to be a Hyundai.

As of now, there are is not much on the wire about the powerplant and the drivetrain. Hyundai’s new range of compact petrol and diesel engines don’t seem to be a far-fetched expectation. Hyundai has also showcased a turbocharged 1.0-liter petrol engine last year at a powertrain conference and this could be the one tailormade for this urban SUV.

Hyundai has a slew of new launches scheduled for launch in India which includes an MPV and a compact sedan apart from a compact SUV. When this mini SUV makes its way into India, it is expected to compete with EcoSport and Duster.

We are keeping our eyes and ears open for this upcoming Hyundai’s ace. Keep tuned for more!
