SPIED: Upcoming Jaguar XJ Ultimate Caught ‘On Test’ in Pune With Hidden Badges

When our avid reader Rishabh Chopda dropped these spy pics of this Jaguar XJ in our mailbox, everything looked normal until we headed our way to the rear.

The covered badges and company logo brought in all the suspicion and since these are not mainstream cars, it took us a while before we latched onto something concrete. Rishabh’s earlier contribution to MotorBash has been the clear spy pics of upcoming Mercedes A-Class.

Mr Rohit Suri who heads Premier Car Division at Jaguar Land Rover in India revealed back in August that they would be launching two new cars in India. Out of them one would be the F-Type sportscar and the other one would be the super luxury XJ Ultimate.

And, with these spy pics, we reveal the first ever spottings of Jaguar XJ Ultimate on Indian soil.

What is Jaguar XJ Ultimate?

Unveiled at the Beijing Motor Show, XJ Ultimate is the top-of-the line model in the XJ family. The international XJ Ultimate model gets a clear ‘Ultimate’ badge at the rear, Maroa forged 20-inch alloy wheels and chrome garnished lower air-dam. Through this test mule, we can clearly notice the chrome garnished air dam and a very possible ‘Ultimate’ badge under those tapes, however, alloy wheels are different. We also see extra use of chrome on the pillars on this mule.

The main changes lie on the inside of XJ Ultimate. It gets powered reclining leather seats at the rear akin to first class airline seats with lumbar support, massage and climate controls. It also gets additional features like Champagne chiller in between. There is a 20 speaker 15 channel surround sound audio system which is specifically made for XJ Ultimate by Meridian. It also gets a powered business table at the rear. Apart from this, the suspensions have also been beefed up for added comfort.

This Jaguar XJ Ultimate was spotted at Aundh in Pune and had “On Test batch 2” written at the driver side window glass. Which engine option would India get remains to be seen. We were reluctantly expecting this XJ Ultimate in India but this looks a little earlier than our expectations. Tata owning Jaguar definitely has had a big advantage now!

Jaguar would launch XJ Ultimate in India sometime in early 2013 and is expected to carry a price tag of slightly lesser than 2 Crore.
