Spied: VW’s Crossover Hatch Cross Polo Caught Again in Pune

Volkswagen has decided that they will continue churning out newer variants of their existing Polo and Vento for a few years before launching all-new cars in India like the Taigun and others.

As a result, we now have the turbocharged petrol automatic Polo GT TSI with DSG gearbox which was launched recently. Following this will be Polo GT TDI, Cross Polo as well as Polo CNG. Spyshots of all these variants have surfaced over the web. After the last clearer spyshots, a new set of spypics of possibly the same red colored Cross Polo mule have been caught by 21Archer84, a Team-Bhp member.

Caught somewhere around Chakan, 21Archer84 reports that the mule was being driven with zest and the car was also responding to the driver’s whip! In the earlier reports, it has become clear that along with the Polo GT TDI, even this Cross Polo will carry the same 1.6L 105PS/250Nm diesel motor from Vento. The ‘TDI’ badge helps us in identifying the mule as a diesel.

This is a good news considering that the defunct Skoda Fabia Scout with its 1.2L engines were performance duds. The Cross Polo gets some rough-roading capability in the form of higher ground clearance, possibly bigger tyres etc. Pronounced wheel arches, redesigned bumpers, roof rails etc help in proper visual differentiation with the regular Polo.

Since Volkswagen will have the liberty to share majority of the parts with other Polos and Ventos, including the engine, we expect the German auto major to price it competitively to ensure the alien concept of a hatch-off-roader sells in India. Else, we feel EcoSport might just eat this Cross Polo for a breakfast. Launch is expected to take place within this year.
