Maruti Suzuki has a big surprise for everyone! Going by a leaked document and new spyshots shared by Gaadiwaadi.com, India’s largest car manufacturer is soon going to launch a hybrid version of their mid-size sedan Ciaz and this is not just a start/stop system!
The leaked leaflet reveals that Ciaz SHVS will have a Smart Hybrid system. Being touted as the Blue Technology, this will be the first time something like this is making its way in the country in a mass production vehicle, and more interesting is the fact that it is on the diesel version!
The company talked about SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) for the first time at Geneva when they showcased the iM-2 SUV concept. This houses an Integrated Starter Generator which provides power assistance to the traditional internal combustion engine during startup. It was loaded with lithium ion batteries and regenerative braking system to spice things up.
The Ciaz diesel with a fuel efficiency rating of 26.2 kmpl is the most efficient sedan in the country. With this additional support by the hybrid system the car should be able to churn out an even better fuel efficiency which, we believe, will surpass their Celerio diesel’s rating.
The report further states that the company will be making airbags standard on all variants, which would be another big move in terms of safety for Maruti. Expect the same 1.3 litre multijet diesel to continue in the car and a new V(o) variant will also be launched.
