SURPRISE No 3: Honda Wants to Snatch a Pie From Alto and Eon Now!

In its bid to go all guns blazing in India and after revealing its launch plans of the compact SUV, Honda now wants to take a shot at the the smallest A-segment in India.

A segment which is dominated by Maruti Alto and Hyundai Eon and has part time participants in the form of Chevrolet Spark and Tata Nano, will see a new entrant. In an article published at Times of India, Honda reveals that they have intentions of launching a car smaller than Brio.

Interestingly, Honda doesn’t have as small and an apt car for India right now. The 660cc Kei cars that it sells in Japan might not be the right choice for Indians tastes. Honda says that they are deciding on the platform and might probably design an India-specific engine as well. Though the plans are still in ‘study’ stage and if all thumbs point up, we might just see tiny Honda cars zipping across our cities.

The time frame and any major details are still uncovered but we feel it will take Honda more than a couple of years before this plan moves to the development phase, if et all! But a Honda at the price of an Alto or Eon will make matters really interesting in India. Of all this, what interests us the most is the impact that this might have on the Honda brand. For now, Honda must be busy with preparations of its most important launch yet, Honda Amaze which is scheduled for 11th April.

  1. I don’t think Honda will be able to beat Maruti Suzuki in their small car category. Alto K10 already has a well established market. Penetration isn’t going to be easy.
