Suzuki to Showcase New Ignis Crossover in Tokyo

Suzuki, back at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, revealed a new crossover concept called as the iM-4. The model now seems to be getting ready to make its debut in an almost production ready form at the Tokyo Motor Show slated to be held later this year. Called as the Ignis, the crossover may make it to India sometime in the future after Maruti stabilises the sales of their upcoming sub 4 meter SUV codenamed YBA.

The Ignis aims to bridge the gap which seems to have become synonymous with compact cars, the lack of space! The company claims that despite being small in size, the Ignis can lap you in leisure that too in a daily use vehicle. They even go on to claim that the Ignis will be comfortable to drive even on snow and rough tracks, which would be perfect for typical Indian roads. This versatility suggests that it may get some sort of an all-wheel drive system.

The crossover will have the driver seated in a high position to give easy visibility of the surroundings. The images also reveal that the Ignis will have a high ground clearance which is another plus point making it an ideal product for India. Positioning the Ignis in India will, however, be a tough task for Maruti Suzuki.

Engine details have not been revealed but the possibility of the new 1.0 litre Boosterjet making in to the global model are fairly high. The interiors too get a nice touch screen infotainment system. The front appears fairly interesting however, the rear looks 1980s with a few cues of the Nissan Terrano!

Suzuki will also be showcasing a more urbane model called as the Ignis Trail Concept.
